Valentine's Day count down Blitz: Day 1: Cross Examination by Denise Moncrief

DAY 1

-->Denise is a Southern girl who has lived in Louisiana all her life, and yes, she has a drawl. She has a wonderful husband and two incredible children, who not only endure her writing moods, but also encourage her to indulge her writing passion. Besides writing romantic suspense, she enjoys traveling, reading, and scrapbooking.

Accounting is a skill she has learned to earn a little money to support her writing habit. She wrote her first story when she was a teen, seventeen handwritten pages on school-ruled paper and an obvious rip-off of the last romance novel she had read. She's been writing off and on ever since, and with more than a few full-length manuscripts already completed, she has no desire to slow down.

Blog Tour: Becky's Kiss by Nicholas Fisher

Becky meets the boy of her dreams,
too bad he keeps disappearing.

"It could not be worse for ninth grader Becky Michigan on her first day at a new school, sitting in beet juice and staining her white jeans in a classroom about to fill up with students. In the nick of time, a gorgeous blonde boy named Danny comes in and offers his over-sized baseball jersey so she can cover up, get to the office, and change. By the time she pulls the shirt over her head, however, he has mysteriously disappeared.
Becky scours the school in search of her dream-athlete and wonders why after contact with him she has magically gained the ability to throw a fastball ninety miles per hour! Instead of finding the answer, however, Becky's new skill pits her against the school bully and the entire varsity baseball team.
That night, after her exciting showdown in front of the entire school, Danny shows up at her bedroom window. If she will agree to meet him behind Rutledge High at midnight on the ball field at the edge of the woods, he promises to reveal a secret meant to alter the past and change her life forever."

He lives in Pennsylvania with his wife and his son goes to Arizona State University.

Character Casting
(Feel free to pick your own Cast, Who do you think would be perfect in these parts?)

Becky Michigan:

the lead character. A "country" type girl (from upstate New York) with long auburn hair, a small turned up nose, and sad puppy-dog eyes. Built slim and very athletic, though she thinks she is a klutz. Pretty, but she hasn't learned quite yet how to "package" herself, so she thinks she comes off plain. When she tries out for the varsity baseball team at her high school and puts on the royal blue Rutledge Tigers hat, pulling all that hair through the hole in the back in a glorious ponytail, however, she realizes how shockingly pretty she is.

MY PICK:

Alexandria Daddario. I think she could totally own this roll.

Danny Taragna:

Becky's love interest. Only an inch or two taller than Becky, and the epitome of the "beautiful jock," always seen wearing his favorite little league tournament jersey, not tucked in. He is a blonde with crystal blue eyes, arching eyebrows, and high cheekbones. Like a cherub. He is humble and quietly clever, the type that "wears skinny well."

MY PICK:

Cole LaBrant. Technically not an actor (I don't think so, at least.) But he TOTALLY fits the description right?

Cody Hatcher:

The class bully. Tall with unkempt long black hair. Mole under one cheek. Peach fuzz goatee. Often wears an army jacket and dirty sneakers. Wise guy in class as well as the hallways. The type that tenses up the mood of the class, goading others to challenge the teacher, then leaning back in his chair saying "Oooh," to instigate. The type of guy that cuts himself shaving and wears that little piece of toilet paper with the red dot on it into school.

MY PICK:

Thomas McDonell could totally own this roll. He looks all nice and sweet, but if you've seen him on The 100, you know he can totally get ugly if he needs too.

SNIPPET:

“Here.”  She had arrived at her seat, and she’d also pretty much solved the mystery of the little rebellion going on.  The guy sitting in the chair next to hers had been absent yesterday, and he was clearly establishing himself as the class troublemaker—tall and wiry, knees and elbows everywhere, flannel shirt with a rip in the elbow.  He had chin-zits slightly covered by a peach fuzz goatee, haphazard hair curling up a bit on the sides, and a big mole under his left cheekbone.  And all through Becky’s awkward entry, he’d been rocking back and forth in his chair, hooting at each outburst, and adding a little “Ooooh-ahhh” at each of Mr. Marcus’s retorts.  He wasn’t even the one misbehaving, at least not in any provable way.  He was just the instigator, sitting back and prodding.
He also had his foot up on Becky’s chair.  Black Converse high top.  Dirty too.

Author Bio: (From Amazon)

Born in Orangeville, Ontario, Canada, Jeanne Lamb-Carlin has spent most of her life in Long Island, New York. When she isn't writing, she could be playing pc games or reading. She loves movies, and looks forward to AMC's Best Picture Showcase every year. She could easily spend hours vegetating on the couch, catching up on episodes of "The Walking Dead" and "The Americans".

Her first job was dispatcher for a small shipping company where she spent way too much time writing bad poetry. She then moved on to public relations and sales for the Empire State Building Observatory where she didn't have as much time to write, but met a lot of interesting people.

She likes to travel, hike, ride very scary roller coasters, bowl, (wish I could find Candlepin bowling in Long Island) drink Pumpkin Ale, (unfortunately just in the Fall), watch hockey, bake, make pierogi, and of course write.

She is the author of three novels in the Allison Taylor Series: THE LIES THAT BIND, WORDS TO DIE BY, and SWIMMING WITH SHARKS. Fourth book in series: SINS OF THE FATHERS coming soon.

MY REVIEW:

I have not yet read the first book in this series, but after reading Book 2, (Words To Die By) I just had to read this one too.
All the characters I enjoyed getting know are back in this book, leading with Ally. The book starts off with Ally and the hunk Mark broken up, and if you've loved their relationship as much as I have, it's heartbreaking to see. But with Larry, one of my all time favorite minor characters, shows up, you know everything is going to be all right in the end. This book really gets going when Ally's ex-husband Jack shows up claiming financial issues, and asking for a place to stay for a little while. Soon some shady characters show up, and while there is definitely someone protecting Ally, there is for sure someone trying to kill her. The only ones Ally can turn to are Elizabeth and Larry, and it isn't long before the three of them are digging into the situation and finding out some rather "interesting" aspects to Jack's past. So much for the smoking hot cop that got away.
There are a lot more characters to this book, but you can totally tell how much the author has grown throughout this series. Since I read the second book before this one, I ended up skimming over the back story repeats, and wish that the author had just made a note that this series is best read in order, rather then include it, but it's a tough call to make for every author.
Other then the backstory parts, I found the story quick paced, intriguing, and with a fabulous sprinkle of humor necessary for such an intense plot.

I give this book 4 STARS!!!
