Book Tour: Fires of Invention by J Scott Savage

Introducing the latest by the amazing J Scott Savage!!!
You all are going to absolutely love this!
(My review is at the bottom!)

Book Blurb:

Trenton Colman is a creative thirteen-year-old boy with a knack for all things mechanical. But his talents are viewed with suspicion in Cove, a steam-powered city built inside a mountain. In Cove, creativity is a crime and “invention” is a curse word. Kallista Babbage is a repair technician and daughter of the notorious Leo Babbage, whose father died in an explosion—an event the leaders of Cove point to as an example of the danger of creativity.
Working together, Trenton and Kallista learn that Leo Babbage was developing a secret project before he perished. Following clues he left behind, they begin to assemble a strange machine that is unlike anything they’ve ever seen before. They soon discover that what they are building may threaten every truth their city is founded on—and quite possibly their very lives.

Now for a bit about my friend, the man himself, J Scott Savage:

Author Bio:
J. Scott Savage has returned after being lost in a Mexican rain forest. His office is now filled with Mayan scrolls, hieroglyphics, artifacts, and star charts. His children and children-in-law, Big Nick, Erica, Scott, Natalie, Jake, and Little Nick, look pale, and claim to be cursed. His grandchildren, Gray, Lizzie, and Jack, are heavily wrapped in mummy-like bandages. And his wife, Jennifer, has reportedly been seen glowing green and hexing the neighbors.

My Review:
I'm not going to lie, this is actually the first of Mr Savage's books that I've read, though I featured several of his books here on the blog. I was NOT disappointed! Because of it's age range I started off reading the book out loud to my little guy, but by the two-thirds point reading a chapter a night was like torture! I had no choice but to tuck my little guy in and finish the book that night. then I went back to reading chapter a night for my monster so he could hear the ending.
Savage makes you think, in a good way, from the first page of this book. You have to re-wire your brain almost as you dig into this world where words like invention and creativity are as frowned upon as lying and stealing! Since I'm a creative type, I really struggled with the re-wiring at first, but then I saw the plot begin to develop, and I could see how a society could become to wrapped up in it's self that it could fear any sort of change, or inventive improvement. This book is a total page turner, and is written in a way that it's easy to picture the fascinating world of Cove, and all that Trenton and Kallista go through. I cried at the ending, but I can't wait to see where Savage takes us next!
