A Change of Plans
by Donna K Weaver

Book Blurb:

When Lyn sets off on her supposedly uncomplicated and unromantic cruise, she never dreams it will include pirates. All the 25-year-old Colorado high school teacher wants is to forget that her dead fiancĂ© was a cheating scumbag. What she plans is a vacation diversion; what fate provides is Braedon, an intriguing surgeon. She finds herself drawn to him: his gentle humor, his love of music, and even his willingness to let her take him down during morning karate practices. Against the backdrop of the ship’s make-believe world and its temporary friendships, her emotions come alive.
However, fear is an emotion, too. Unaware of the sensitive waters he navigates, Braedon moves to take their relationship beyond friendship—on the very anniversary Lyn came on the cruise to forget. But Lyn’s painful memories are too powerful, and she runs off in a panic.
Things are bad enough when the pair finds themselves on one of the cruise’s snorkeling excursions in American Samoa. However, paradise turns to piracy when their party is kidnapped. Lyn’s fear of a fairytale turns grim. Now she must fight alongside the man she rejected, first for their freedom and then against storms, sharks, and shipwreck.

*I was gifted a copy of the audio version in exchange for an honest review*

When Donna sent out a request looking for people who'd be willing to listen to and review her audio version of A Change in Plans, I was slightly hesitant. The last time I listened to an audio book, it was scriptures on cassette, which my parents forced us to listen to when a road trip ended up taking over a Sunday that it wasn't intended too. It was so boring that I pretty much slept the entire time. But audio books are getting bigger and bigger all the time, and a few of my friends swear that they'd never get to keep up with books if it wasn't for them. So I volunteered. With a couple long drives to out of town doctors ahead of me, I figured this would either be a great way to stay awake, or I'd have to send her an email apologizing that I wouldn't be able to do the review. IT WAS FANTASTIC!!! Narrated by a lovely lady by the name of Karen Kruper, the book was as spell bounding as it was in print. It was easy to follow along with, and I found myself itching for a chance to put it back on when I wasn't able to finish it before getting back home from the long drives. I absolutely adored all the accents Karen managed to pull off, and she kept the voices organized very well. I suppose the only thing I'd change, would be I wish Lyn (the main female character) wasn't done with such a slow deliberate voice every single time. But even that wasn't a huge issue.
There is so much fantastic symbolism in this book, and it's not that you have to shred the book into pieces to find it either! The names of best friends Lynn and Elle were selected perfectly. Besides that, the characters have you wrapped around their fingers in seconds. I found myself a new BBF (Book boy-friend) in Braedon, and quickly despised Jason as Lynn's back story was craftily revealed. All in all, I give this book a 5 star review! BRAVO Donna and Karen!
