Book Blitz: Stricken by Marcia Colette

Book Description:

Personal tragedy convinces half-werewolf Alexa York to get away to the town of McCormick, Pennsylvania where she's charged with protecting Dr. Aiden Joss, physician to the supernatural community. Not only does she need the money, she needs the distraction. Unfortunately, she gets it in spades when Joss's personal issues and a myriad of dangerously sick patients make her new job nearly impossible.
A mysterious disease is running its way through the New York Order of the Amazons and leaving bodies in its wake. The same warrior who had chosen her clan over Joss has asked for him help. Even though the disease is real, Alexa has reason to believe his ex's sincerity is not.
Given the other numerous problems she has to deal with that are outside of her job description, Dr. Joss might be the biggest threat to his own safety. But, protecting him comes first. That’s difficult to do when his efforts to find an antidote put everyone in his remote clinic in danger, including Alexa.

About the Author:

Author Marcia Colette didn’t discover her love for reading until her late teens when she started reading John Saul and progressed to works by Bentley Little, Stephen King and Laurell K. Hamilton. Her reading tastes convinced her to write paranormals where curses cause people to shift into spiders, psychotic and telekinetic mothers are locked away in attics, and murderous doppelgangers are on a rampage. Let's not forget about the hunky werecheetah coalitions who live throughout North Carolina. As long as she can make it believable, that's all that matters.

Born and raised in upstate New York, Marcia now lives in North Carolina with her mom and beautiful daughter. They’re not raising zombies in the backyard. There aren’t any hellhounds living in the den, only a rabbit and a cockatiel. So where she gets her ideas is as much a mystery to her as anyone else.

The best place to find her--when she's not stirring up trouble--is on her blog where she loves connecting with readers.

Excerpt:

“Oh, boy.” He hurried to unlock the storm door and let me inside. “You must be Ms. Alexa York.”
I struggled getting past him with my wet duffle, carry-on and my drenched clothes clinging to my cold body. “I am. I take it the phones don’t work around here.”
He took my stuff and set it aside. “The power has been flickering all night. They just got the lights back on about three minutes ago. The phone is Internet, so when the power goes out, everything goes out.”
I unzipped my sodden jacket. “I get it. No phone, no phone calls. Which is why I was stuck at the airport.”
He sighed. “Again, my apologies, ma’am. With so much going on, I only had a chance to worry about one thing at a time.”
I glanced at him before answering. So much going on? The house was quiet and not a soul in sight. What could’ve possibly had him too busy to pick me up when he knew I was coming? Heck, I was here to be his replacement while he was on the mend. If he didn’t want me here, forgetting me at the airport or not sending a car to pick me up worked in his favor.
He offered his hand to me. “My name’s Sammy. I’m Dr. Joss’s med tech and assistant.”
“Med tech?” I looked him up and down. “But I thought you were his—”
He chuckled. “I’m really his assistant. I’m only his bodyguard when I have to be. And given the kind of world that lies beyond those gates, I find myself playing the latter more often.”
I closed my eyes and sighed. “I’m sorry if I sounded a little crotchety, but—”
Sammy waved a large hand. “No need to apologize. I’d be a lot more than pissed had I been in your shoes. Speaking of which, let me show you to your room so you can get some dry clothes on.”
Snorting, I glanced at the puddle forming around my duffle. “Dry clothes, huh. That would be nice.”

Book Tour: Hohenstein by Didi Lawson

The back cover says:

Anything but a typical aristocrat, young Baroness Marie-Louise is not afraid to roll up her sleeves and get to work, especially when it comes to saving her ancestral estate. Determined to shake loose the shackles of propriety and gain the warm family life her upbringing denied her, she has vowed to marry a man of lower rank. Blue-bloods need not apply.
But when she is forced to turn to a childhood friend for assistance, the handsome, debonair count may prove a temptation impossible to resist. Marie-Louise soon finds herself caught between the comfort of a middle-class doctor and the passion of a nobleman, with the future of her childhood home at stake.

Character casting:
The author did not provide actor or actress names for the main characters in her book, so I've selected people according to the descriptions she gave me. If you think someone might be a better fit, please comment below! It's always fun to see what other people envision!

Baroness Marie-Louise von Hohenstein
19 years old, tall, beautiful with long almost black hair. She was raised by her spinster aunt Ambrosia until she was seven years old.  Her parents spent most of their time away from home, until her father passed away and she was sent to a boarding school in Switzerland, but spent summers with her mother in France. After one semester at the Humboldt University in Berlin she was informed that her tuition had not been paid. She was forced to travel to Hohenstein to take matters into her own hands. Upon returning to the castle, she found it in ill repair, but learned that she couldn’t touch her inheritance before her twenty-fifth birthday or on her wedding day whichever occurred first.  When she turned to Count Wolfburg, the executor of her father’s will, for help she learned that the old count had passed away, and that his young and good-looking son Ulrich now ran the business.  Although he was very kind and pleasant, he could not help her. Even a request for a business loan was denied by him and also by the local bank.
Her situation became precarious when the county demanded a new stable roof.  Another visit to Wolfburg and another plea for help failed. Marie-Louise returned to Hohenstein with mixed feelings. The count had awakened feelings in her that she tried to reason away as compatible body chemistry. She had vowed never to marry anyone from her own ranks, and she certainly didn’t want to fall in love with Ulrich.
Instead, she went on a date with a young doctor hoping to fall in love with him and forget Ulrich and the way he made her feel. Yet, Ulrich wouldn’t let her forget her response to him, and finally, she had to admit that she had fallen in love with him, although now she knew that he out of her reach because he was soon to announce his engagement to another woman.
When Marie-Louise’s business venture threatened to fail due to the mayor’s shady scheme to obtain the castle for his own purposes, Ulrich stepped in and rescued her heart and her castle.

I picked the super adorable Maia Mitchel to play this part. I think she has the perfect amount of spunk to do the job justice!

Count Ulrich von Wolfburg
27 years old, tall with coppery hair and glacier-blue eyes, athletic physique, laugh lines around the eyes, an astute businessman, the Head of the Wolfburg family empire and the director of the Wolfburg Bank. He stepped in his father’s shoes after the old count suffered a stroke and passed away two years earlier.

I picked this very well known, smoking hot ginger.
Perfect, right!?!?

Ambrosia von Hohenstein,
Marie-Louise’s spinster aunt
Good-looking, tall woman in her early forties, staunchly adheres to the old tradition, and strict disciplinarian. Out of necessity, she discovered her passion for cooking and gardening. Likes to collect herbs for medicinal purposes. Falls in love with the widowed Dr. Paul Walter.

Who better to play a disciplinarian who can still fall in love than Kate Winslet!?!

Mayor Schmidt,
mayor of the town of Hohenstein
Devised a way to lure Marie-Louise back to Hohenstein and to take advantage of her youth and inexperience to snatch the castle away from her. A fatherly figure, he appeared to help the baroness in any way possible, even offered his vacation home in the Black Forest for her to take a break. He granted her a personal loan and required repayment when he was sure she didn’t have the funds or the time to find funding somewhere else.

Billy Zane may have chosen to go bald recently, but I still think he would look fabulous playing this part!

Now let's give you a sneak peek into the book.

With days before Andrew Lancaster’s birthday, Reaper decided to share his present with all of Long Island. Months of planning along with weeks of observing provided a window of opportunity that was too good to pass up. It was time for his reign of terror to begin and the citizens of Long Island to pay for Lancaster’s mistakes.
