Book Tour: Breached by John Hohn

Author Bio:

I am a Midwesterner by birth. Yankton, South Dakota, is my hometown. I graduated from high school there in 1957. After four years earning degree in English at St. John’s University (MN), I became a teacher. My first wife, Elaine Finfrock, also of Yankton, and I had five children; four sons and a daughter. We divorced in 1977.

In 1964, I joined The Travelers in Minneapolis, MN and began what turned out to be a 40 year career in the financial services industry. During the that time, in addition to The Travelers, I held positions with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Minnesota, Wilson Learning Corporation, and Wachovia Bank and Trust. While at Wachovia, I served in many different positions, ending my tenure as a representative of the trust department services in the greater New York City area. I retired at the end of 2007 after 15 years as a Financial Advisor with Merrill Lynch serving over 300 clients in the Winston-Salem, NC area.

In 1986, Melinda Folger McLeod and I were married and I gained a stepson, Matthew. Currently, we divide our time each year between our cabin New West Jefferson, NC and our cottage in Southport, NC near the Cape Fear River. I enjoy golf, music, and reading history. Since my retiring I have focused on my writing, an avocation throughout my life. In 2010, I completed my first novel, Deadly Portfolio: A Killing Hedge Funds and the sequel, Breached was published August 2014.

Breached

Back cover blurb:

Following his critically acclaimed debut novel, Deadly Portfolio: A Killing
in Hedge Funds, author John J. Hohn offers Breached, a suspenseful,
fast-paced sequel.

The story is set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina where Detective James Raker meets up with an old high school classmate.
Their reunion, however, is interrupted by murder. Gunned down is state dam inspector Norm Dennison who dies before he can prove to the homeowners around Lake Hannah that Vernon Brost, a developer, has launched an elaborate scheme to defraud them. The threat to Brost’s plans does not go away with Dennison’s death, however, as Dennison’s widow turns over the dead man’s files to Art Nichols, a Lake Hannah resident and a friend of the retired detective, James Raker. Thugs ransack Nichols’ home to recover the documents. Not finding them, they decide to break into Raker’s home where they are surprised by Raker’s girl friend, Diane Welborn. Welborn is knocked unconscious and the house is set ablaze. Together Nichols, a Viet Nam veteran, and Raker begin tracking down the intruders. Welborn is hospitalized in serious condition. While in a coma, she recalls her painful childhood, her unsuccessful fi rst marriage and her struggles to find fulfillment after her divorce. Raker’s concern for her injuries drives him in his pursuit of her attackers.

Breached is a fast-paced realistic literary mystery with a sharp focus on

character development.

Snippet:
“That’s funny. I don’t think your supervisor knew you quit.”
“I can’t help what he knows and what he don’t know.”
“Your supervisor said you’re supposed to call in when you’re absent.”
“I wasn’t absent. I quit.”
“He thought you’d probably show up and file a workmen’s comp claim because of the accident happened your last day on the job.”
“I ain’t filin’ no claim. I got hurt. It was my fault. I quit. I ain’t going back there for anything.”
“So nobody at the plant knew you had quit, right?”
“How would I know?”
“How did this 308 Winchester come to be in your place?”
“Bought it at a gun show, Hillsville, Virginia.”
“You bought it there?”
“Yeah.”
“That expensive scope on it when you bought it?”
“Yup. Package deal.”
“What about the Glock?”
“Found it.”
“Really?”
“Yeah. Someone must’ve been out target practicing with it. Laid it down and walked away from it.”

“Seems like an expensive gun to walk off on?”

But when he gets shanghaied to Tokyo, all of that changes for the mild-mannered Buck—because this blond Texan is about to go sumo!

Peek inside the secret world of sumo, and cheer for Buck as he fights his way through the ranks— against bullies of incredible size—to win the heart of the girl he loves.

And now for a snippet from this fabulous book:

“It’s me? What’s me?” A rush of hot fear sloshed up from his gut and colored his neck and head red.
“You’re on the TV screen up there—quick, smile!”
Buck squinted, smiling in confusion, but then he realized almost 15,000 people were staring at him and screaming. Horror. He strained out his best grin, looking back and forth to no avail. The spotlight blinded him. What was going on? How long would they torture him with this fierce glare? Move it along, already. Yeah, fat guy in the audience here—fat enough to be a blond sumo wrestler. Fine. Pick on someone else now.
But the light didn’t dissipate, and the audience started chanting and clapping. Then the clapping got rhythmical, and soon Hiro joined it, too. All the air sucked out of Buck’s lungs, like someone just opened an airplane door. Where was that dangly air mask when he needed it?
“You need to stand up, Buck. Go toward the ring.”
Go toward the light was more like it. Death had hit him swiftly and much more painfully than he’d ever imagined.

Don't forget to get your name into the giveaway!
