12 Days of Great Summer Reads: Book Blitz: Cutlass by Ashley Nixon

-->

Notorious pirate Barren Reed has one thing on his mind: Revenge against the man who killed his father. So kidnapping his enemy's fiancé seems a perfect plan…until he actually does it.

Larkin Lee is more than a pretty face and fiancé to a powerful man. Her fierce personality is enough to make any pirate want to push her overboard.

But when the King of the Orient comes to Barren with a task—to find the Bloodstone, a powerful gem thought only to exist in legend, Barren sees another opportunity to destroy his enemy. Together, Barren, Larkin and a crew of pirates set off to find the stone, only to discover it caused the death of Barren’s own mother and Larkin’s, too. As his strongest allies turn into his greatest enemies, and the life of the girl he kidnapped becomes more important than he ever dreamed, Barren’s quest for revenge becomes a fight to save the Orient.

-->Ashley was born and raised in Oklahoma, where the wind really does sweep down the plains, and horses and carriages aren't used as much as she'd like. She has a Bachelor's in English Writing and a Master's in Library Science and Information Studies. When Ashley isn't writing, she's traveling, working out, or pretending she's Sherlock Holmes. Her obsession with writing began after reading the Lord of the Rings in the eighth grade. Since then, she's loved everything Fantasy--resulting in an unhealthy obsession with the 'geek' tab on Pinterest, where all things awesome go.

Snippet

“It is required by the code that I kill any privateers I come into contact with—a waste, really. You were brave.”
Barren moved his arm back and thrust the blade toward the young lord. Larkin moved quickly, snatching Leaf’s cutlass from his hand, she deflected Barren's sword and stood between the two.
“No!” she cried fiercely. “You will spare him!”
“You do not command me!” Barren’s voice was deadly.
“What would you gain from his death?”
“He cannot be trusted!”
“You've spent all your life killing the wrong people! How many more lives will you take to pay for one?”
Barren let his blade fall to his side. His gaze seared her, and he could tell she was afraid. Her eyes were wide, and she breathed heavily, but her hands tightened on the hilt of Leaf’s blade. For a moment, he wanted to end her life. Then he would have no more interferences, but he knew he couldn’t. He took a step toward her, eyes narrowing.
“Move,” he commanded. Larkin glared up at him and shook her head. Barren tightened his jaw.
“It's okay, Larkin,” she heard Jonathan's voice. “Move.”
Barren watched as she turned to face Jonathan. Because she was distracted, Leaf was able to reach forward and pull her away from the scene, ripping the blade from her hands. Barren stepped forward, repositioned himself before the man and pointed the sword at Jonathan’s neck. All Barren had to do was push ever so slightly and blood would pool on the ground, a terrible gurgling sound that would fill the air. Larkin would scream—scream that he was a monster. Only now, she would see it, she would really know it.

Hello!

Today we are going to focus on the next book in the compilation.
Check it out!

Summer Holiday:
In the summer of 1905, Lizzy Gordon’s father dismisses her desires to be a doctor, demanding she become a teacher—a profession which does not allow women to marry.
Teacher Brent Pierce is dedicated to expanding young minds, but circumstances are forcing him to take over the family farm.
Before the summer is over Lizzy and Brent will be forced to make hard decisions. Can they find the courage to each stand up for themselves and still be together?

Now about the fabulous lady behind this book!

Carol Malone
Award-winning author Carol Malone has successfully combined her three passions – romance, sports, and writing in her two highly-rated books, Fight Card Romance: Ladies Night, and Ladies Night Christmas sequel. She was the first woman to write a romance for the all-male dominated genre. Carol invites her readers to scramble into a front row seat for a thrill-ride of suspense, sports, and romance. Book Tour: Summer Hearts Compilation: Drowning Sandy by Sarah Daley

EEEK! Today is my day! It still feels unreal to have my own book out there, but here it is!

Drowning Sandy:
The water is calling...
and Sandy can no longer resist the urge to unleash her mermaid form. But a simple swim in Lake Ontario ends when she discovers the truth of her own banishment. When long time crush, Alardo, seems to shift in a direction she never dreamed possible, Sandy must make a choice — mermaid or human? Once she chooses, she can never go back.

Now about the crazy lady behind this book!

My (Sarah Daley) Bio:
Sarah lives in Arizona with her best friend and husband, Chris, their adorable monster child, and neurotic dog.
At the age of six, she became a reading machine. Devouring everything she could possibly get her hands on. In high school she almost failed English three times because of her detest for writing book reports. Today, Sarah writes whatever stories haunt her dreams, and struggles to focus on one idea at a time. When she isn’t enjoying time with her family, or writing, you will find her nose stuck in a book, or out walking and enjoying the sunshine.
Drowning Sandy is her debut novella!

Main Character Casting! One of my favorite things to feature on my blog is the author's pic of actors should their book ever be made into a movie. Which of course, is a dream come true for EVERY author. So of course, I had my own actors picked out for my book! Still can't believe I get to feature my OWN book!

Sandy Antori: Spunky, and yet quick to want to please others, she finds herself battling her inner wants and desires with the difficult decisions being an adult requires of her. Picking an actress to play Sandy is tough. When I wrote this book, I actually envisioned her looking like a friend of mine’s sister. The next best second would have to be Shailene Woodley. Since, Shelly is Sandy’s twin, Shailene would have her work cut out for her not only being a mermaid, but being a twin too!

(Fun fact: My friend's little sister is the cover model for when I re-release Drowning Sandy on it's own! I'm keeping the cover top secret for a few more weeks, but be sure to subscribe to this blog if you want to be kept posted on that cover reveal/book launch)

Alardo Ritno: Not one to be pushed around either, poor Alardo has been nursing his secret crush for Sandy from when they were kids just learning to swim. Little does he know that, Sandy had jumped to the conclusion that he was completely hung up on her twin, Shelly. Jensen Ackles is PERFECT!!! Just needs the short cropped hair, and copper and gold scales… YUM!
